Barkham Terrace

Barkham House, a 19th-century terraced property, was once the residence of the head physician of a nearby hospital. Overlooking the Imperial War Museum and its park, the house carries a rich historical significance. We had the pleasure to collaborate with Leo Wood, director at KinderDesign, to deliver a full refurbishment, creating bespoke joinery pieces that seamlessly integrate into the home’s grand vision while standing out as unique focal points in each space.

Guided by the refined visual sensibility of the client, climate scientist Fredi Otto, every custom-designed piece was crafted to maximize functionality and enhance the character of the house. Each room features a distinct style, with materials, colors, and designs tailored to its purpose. Highlights include a six-door wardrobe in the master bedroom lined with Schumacher wallpaper and finished with a vibrant pink interior, and a floating blue Valchromat desk in the office, designed for both sitting and standing.

Additional standout pieces include a hallway unit made from Smile Plastics’ Cosmos material — an eco-conscious surface crafted from recycled plastic bottles — which provides efficient storage and a striking entrance feature. In the downstairs library, a 3.5-meter-long aluminium shelving unit serves as both storage and a display for books and artworks. These bespoke pieces showcase our expertise in creating timeless, functional designs that honor both the home’s history and the client’s vision.
